Newborn sessions are a mix of candid family photography and relaxed portraiture, with a minimal and considered aesthetic. No babies in buckets, in other words.
They usually take place at home, and ideally within the first 2-3 weeks. It doesn’t matter what your home looks like, how messy it is, whether you’ve mopped. I'm only looking for the light - and it’s always there (sometimes with a bit of help!). I bring a small selection of neutral wraps and backdrops for some very simple portraits, and focus on capturing how tiny they are and how utterly over awed you are by them.
The idea of getting in front of the camera with a new baby can be hugely daunting, especially if the transition has been complicated/older children are full of energy/you don’t even recognise yourself. Everyone feels dishevelled, there’s always a bit of mess and clutter, and the session is always a stop-start symphony of snoozing and feeding and poorly timed pooing. I shove things out of the way, I keep an eye on how your clothes are hanging and camera angles and the way the light is falling. I have two kids and am surrounded by kids and babies: nothing phases me, and there is always magic in the chaos.
Newborn sessions are weekdays only, with a small travel fee applicable for locations outside of Greater Bendigo.

FAQ
-
Absolutely! This is a family session in your home - it can even include pets if you wish.
-
Oh - they all are. I've had two. Trust the process - it isn't my first rodeo.
I bring energy and distractions and lots of engagement - do your best to put your preconceptions and worries aside and lean in to the wonderful, funny and chaotic reality of this season.
-
Not at all! Gardens/bush/beach etc (or even a cafe!) are wonderful, especially for the shorter newborn session.
I do generally find home is the easiest environment for a family with a new baby - it is warm and everyone is comfortable and no one has to be wrangled out of the house. It doesn’t need to be perfectly tidy/renovated/flooded with light - I’m good at making it work, pushing things out of the way and doing a bit of sneaky retouching.
Alternatively for longer newborn sessions we can do a mix of home and another local location (e.g. beach, park, cafe etc).
-
Absolutely. I do require a deposit at the time of booking then full payment by the time of the session, but always very flexible about the instalments.
-
They generally take place on a weekday ideally 1-3 weeks after your baby arrives. It is ideal to book your session a few months before, keep me posted on EDD and let me know ASAP once they are here. I’ll then pencil in a time with you around your other commitments which we can move if you need.
Sessions more than 1hr from Bendigo are generally mid to late morning and do sometimes have a bit less flexibility on days and times.
-
The short answer is no! My focus is on creating beautiful memories in your home environment, with the people and things you love around you. My favourite images are generally created using the dynamic light and shadow of windows, which is also extremely flattering on skin.
I do bring some additional lighting for homes with less natural light, and for longer sessions I bring a small selection of neutral wraps/blankets for some simple solo portraits.
-
Definitely not! This is super common and unlikely to resolve in the ‘newborn’ window. Good lighting goes a long way to minimise the appearance of skin redness/flaking/acne, and most of the time I can gently retouch marks (if you wish) in a way that removes temporary blemishes etc while retaining normal skin texture.

You can order prints directly through your gallery via Australia’s best professional lab, and I can design and order cards and albums in full consultation with you.
BOOKING
You can email me directly at hello@allicampbell.com, or fill in the contact form. Include your EDD, other children - anything that might be helpful! I do my best to get back to you in two business days - keep an eye on your spam folder.
Booking requires a 25% retainer, and I ask you to keep me posted on the arrival of your little one(s), and any preferences for days of the week if you have older children in daycare. Once they’re here we will pencil in a time (which can then be rescheduled if necessary!).
